Wednesday 7 January is a big day for two reasons. Later in the day Barça face Athletic Club in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup, but before that they will discover their opponent in the Copa del Rey last 16, with the draw taking place at 1pm CET at the Spanish FA headquarters in Las Rozas.

Barça booked their place in the round of 16 with a 2–0 win away to Deportivo Guadalajara on 16 December. One tie from the previous round remained unresolved until Tuesday, when Granada faced Rayo Vallecano, completing the line-up for the next stage of the competition.

As Super Cup participants (alongside Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid) Barça are guaranteed an away tie against a lower-division side. Flick’s side will therefore face one of the following Segunda División teams, all of whom progressed by knocking out LaLiga opposition:

  • Deportivo La Coruña (1–0 vs Mallorca)
  • Cultural Leonesa (1–0 vs Levante)
  • Racing Santander (2–1 vs Villarreal)
  • Albacete (beat Celta on penalties)
  • Burgos (3–1 vs Getafe)

All games will be played as a single leg, with extra time and penalties if required.
