The Barça basketball team turned around their recent run of poor results against Real Madrid with a spectacular 105-100 win in the Movistar Arena in the ACB League. Xavi Pascual's team put in an excellent fourth quarter performance to continue their excellent recent form and consolidate their position in the league table ahead of the 2026 Copa del Rey in Valencia.
Small lead
Barça began the Clásico in the Movistar Arena in intense fashion and scoring freely. Real Madrid managed to keep themselves in the game and a high scoring opening period ended with Barça leading by 28-24. In the second quarter the blaugranes maintained control of the contest and managed at one point to surge into a 10 point lead. However, Real Madrid reacted quickly to cut the lead before the break which saw Barça lead 48-44.
All equal
The third period was a point scoring festival of basketball. Real Madrid started strongly, taking the lead at one point, but Barça reasserted themselves to lead 63-59. The game tipped one way then another with the lead changing hands. Three pointers from Punter and Shengelia's presence under the boards allowed the blaugranes to go into the final period with a slender 77-75 lead.
Big win
The high scoring continued in the final period with Laprovittola and Parra leading the way. Xavi Pascual's team maintained their calm as Real Madrid came back at them in the run, coming back to 98-95 with two minutes to go. Nevertheless, Barça held on for a 105-100 win to record another brilliant victory with 2026 already looking good for the blaugranes.
The blaugranes' next test comes on 6 January in the Euroleague against Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Palau Blaugrana, a game that will be played behind closed doors.
