FC Barcelona took three comfortable points from a rain-soaked Estadi Johan Cruyff on Sunday evening, defeating Getafe 3-0 to remain second in the table, just two points off leaders Real Madrid.

Ferran Torres was the star of the night, scoring twice in a dazzling first half, while Dani Olmo — who had already provided a sumptuous assist for the opener — added the third after the break.

Aside from a brief spell of pressure early in the second half, Getafe’s rugged approach never really troubled the hosts. In truth, the visitors were fortunate not to leave with an even heavier defeat. Barça, meanwhile, look to be gathering real momentum, with the sense that there is still plenty more to come.

Ferran double

Barça were in control from the first whistle, and an early goal always felt inevitable. It arrived on the quarter hour, the product of a sweeping team move capped by Raphinha’s diagonal ball, Olmo’s exquisite backheel, and Torres rifling home his third league strike of the season.

On 34 minutes, the Tiburón struck again. Eric Garcia launched play with a long ball from deep, Raphinha cushioned it down, and Torres finished with clinical calm. He might even have had a first-half hat-trick, only for the crossbar to deny him.

Olmo makes it three

Getafe had begun their campaign brightly with three wins from four, but their intensity and physicality were blunted here. Barça’s superiority was overwhelming, and their 2-0 half-time advantage was thoroughly deserved.

The visitors showed more after the restart, but Barça never looked unsettled. The lead was soon stretched when substitute Marcus Rashford — building on his breakthrough performance in Newcastle and growing in confidence by the game — slipped a neat ball back into space for Olmo to guide home.

With the points secure, Barça began to enjoy themselves. Every attack carried danger, yet further goals never materialised. The work was already done, the crowd sent home physically damp but mentally happy, and focus now shifts to Thursday’s league trip to newly promoted Oviedo.

The only real concern was an injury sustained by Fermín Lopez, frustratingly in the very last move of the game. It was too soon for Hansi Flick to provide any details after the game, and we’ll need to wait until the morning to find out whether it’s anything to worry about.
