FC Barcelona take part in the NFT International Congress in Paris 2024

Jordi Mompart, FC Barcelona research director, explained some of Barça's main projects which form part of their strategic commitment to adopting emerging and innovative technology

FC Barcelona were present at the well known NFT Paris 2024 international congress which took place in the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris last Friday and Saturday. At the event the Club was represented by research director Jordi Mompart who was involved in the Web3 in Sports: Invisible Tech, Visible Impact panel. During his contribution he explained some of the projects Barça has developed based around emerging and innovative technologies.

The panel was chaired by Marissa Trew, director of Engagement, Emerging Sector, and along with the FC Barcelona research director, also involved were Alexandre Dreyfus, founder and CEO of Chiliz and Socios.com, as well as Pär Helgosson, responsible for Web3 and Metaverse at Paris Saint-Germain. Barça representative Jordi Mompart discussed the creation and launch process for ‘In a Way, Immortal’, the first ever NFT in the Club's history from its Masterpiece collection which went to auction in July 2022 at Sotheby's in New York. The digital art work recreated the legendary goal scored by Johan Cruyff on 22 December 1973 in which he appeared to 'fly' when putting the ball past Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Reina.

Mompart also explained the Barça Vision platform which brings together all the Club's initiatives associated with Web 3, NFTs and the Metaverse, created to revolutionise the fan experience for Barça followers using emerging, innovative technology. The research director continued by outlining the FC Barcelona projects developed by combining technology with the Club's values, as in the second piece from the Masterpiece collection title 'Empowerment' with Alexia Putellas, a clear example of an empowering message foe women in sport. The collection clearly reflects the Club’s strategy to embrace technology and innovation while also creating unforgettable moments that will not only educate but also inspire Millennial, Xenial, Gen Z and other younger fans.

The research director at FC Barcelona also shared details of the launch of a collection of NFTs in collaboration with Plastiks to promote recycling in developing nations as well as the success of Barça's official profile on Discord, a young, technological community that goes beyond sport.
