Top five moments for Xavi Hernández as FC Barcelona coach
Barça coach Xavi Hernández has committed himself to the Club until 2025 with the option of another year following his contract extension.
The hope for the blaugrana legend will be to add yet more great memories for Culers to the ones we have already experienced since the man from Terrassa took over back in November 2021. Here we have five such moments for you right here.
1 - A first Clásico to remember
For all Culers, the Clásico against Real Madrid is always a special moment. There is no bigger Culer than Xavi Hernández so his first game as coach against the blaugranes’ biggest rivals was always going to be a memorable one. Barça went to the Santiago Bernábeu and won 4-0 thanks to a brace from Aubameyang and goals from Araujo and Ferran Torres. A clear statement of intent from Xavi as Barça coach.
2 - First trophy, the Spanish Super Cup
The year 2023 began in great fashion for the Barça coach. The blaugranes travelled to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup and after beating Betis in the semi-final via a penalty shoot-out, silverware came Xavi’s way for the first time as boss thanks to an impressive 3-1 over Real Madrid in the final.
3 - Second trophy comes in Catalan derby
The Super Cup trophy was the first for Xavi but not the last in the 2022/23 season. Over 38 games, the blaugranes showed themselves to be the best side in La Liga, claiming the league title away from home at city rivals Espanyol to add extra spice to the Club’s 27th victory in the domestic championship.
4 - Magical night in the league
The league title over 38 games contained many vital moments, no more so than the 2-1 win over Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou that went a long way to securing the championship. A goal from Sergi Roberto and then an injury time winner from Franck Kessie gave Xavi’s team an unassailable 12-point advantage over their biggest rivals.
5 - Contract extension at a key moment
There is no time like the present and as such, moment number five is the coach’s newly announced contract extension. Xavi Hernández commits his future to Barça with the team in the midst of the an excellent run of form with consecutive 5-0 wins over Betis and Royal Antwerp and the team playing the ‘best football’ the coach has seen from them since his arrival in November 2021.
