Barça Women 3–0 Bayern Munich Women: Another celebration at the Spotify Camp Nou

Barça lead their UEFA Women’s Champions League group outright after beating Bayern Munich with an attendance of 46,967

The Spotify Camp Nou was again the stage for Barça Women, following the two games there last season. This Champions League group stage game saw a 3-0 win against Bayern Munich, with goals from Geyse, Aitana and Clàudia Pina. A victory that was only decided in the second half that maintains their winning record in Europe's premier club competition.

The game was watched with a celebratory atmosphere by no fewer than 46,967 people, the highest ever attendance for a Women's Champions League group stage game.

Alèxia Putellas received the award for the best player in last season's Champions League before the game, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Control but no penetration

Barça came out strongly and could have taken the lead within the first few minutes, Aitana Bonmatí feeding Geyse, whose shot from inside the area was stopped by Grohs in the Bayern goal. Geyse was proving difficult for the German defence with her movement.

The Catalans were controlling the game but the Bavarians were solid in defence and always a threat on the counter, exemplified by Bühl shooting into the side netting after 10 minutes.

Barça had 13 shots in the first half, with Rolfö looking extremely dangerous down the left and Aitana pulling the strings in between the lines, but the away defence stood firm. 0-0 at half time.

Three goals in 20 minutes

The first goal came only two minutes after the break, Rolfö this time cutting back on to her right foot to cross for the lively Crnogorčević who headed across goal for Geyse to direct her header into the goal off the left post, her third goal in three Champions League games.

The goal seemed to settle Barça and just 12 minutes later, again Rolfö raided down the left before cutting the ball back to Aitana who side footed past the keeper with conviction, making her only the second player after Alexia to have scored in three different games at Spotify Camp Nou.

The fans were already fervent, but Claudia Pina received the ball in the middle third, took a touch, and curled an unstoppable shot in the top right corner from well outside the area for goal number three. She only seems to score great goals and was given an ovation when substituted minutes later.

No more goals, but there was also a loud cheer for Bruna Vilamala who took to the pitch on 83 minutes to replace Aitana Bonmatí. Let's not forget the young player returned from a year out injured last weekend and was now able to savour the experience of playing at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Barça are now outright leaders of their UEFA Women’s Champions League group with this win. Next up   are Rosengard, again at the Spotify Camp Nou on 21 December.
