Baxi Manresa 78–101 Barça: Placid derby win

Strong defence, organised offence and a comfortable victory against fellow Catalan opposition

Barça never really looked like doing anything other than beating Baxi Manresa on Saturday evening, eventually winning 78-101, despite the home side's admirable efforts to find a way back.

When Manresa went +6 in the early minutes, one might have suspected that we had a game on or hands, but Barça very quickly reacted and by the end of the first period were already +17. There was plenty of give and take in the second period, with Manresa playing some impressive basketball, but it was never enough to worry Barça, who by the time of the interval were leading by 20

A Laprovittola three to make it 35-57 suggested that this game was all over, and not even a 9-0 streak from the home side was enough to put that in serious doubt. Barça's offence was in a ruthless mood and they were soon back in a commanding lead.

So commanding in fact that it seemed like the right moment to send out youngsters Caicedo and Rafa Villar to get some valuable moments of experience. This was Barça's game, and an Oscar Da Silva alley-oop was the icing on the cake of a game in which the Brazilian-German amassed 14 points and 5 rebounds.

An impressive win for FC Barcelona, whose next league fixture is on Sunday 23 at the Palau Blaugrana against Lenovo Tenerife.
