Pedri and Aitana, Barça Players Award 2021-22

Pedri and Aitana, Barça Players Award 2021-22

The Association's award highlights values such as humility and leadership. The jury also mentions Melanie Serrano for her commitment to the Club.

FC Barcelona players Pedro González "Pedri" and Aitana Bonmatí have been designated as winners of the 2021-22 Barça Players Award. This has been decided by the jury meeting this Tuesday, May 31, from the finalists that emerged from the vote among the Culer fans. This distinction has been awarded by the Club Players Association since 2010 to recognize the sporting conduct consistent with the values of sport of the first team players. Aitana Bonmatí wins the award for the second consecutive season, as did Xavi Hernández in 2012 and 2013. It should be remembered that the finalists in this edition were Pedri, Ter Stegen and Araújo in the men's category and Alexia, Aitana and Mapi León in female category.

Humility and leadership

Of Pedri, the jury mainly highlights his humility and modesty, always present despite being admired by all the fans. A lifelong young culer who has decided to renew his bond with the Club from discretion and who, with his game full of talent, makes the new generations of Barcelona fans see him as a new benchmark and get hooked on Barça again. In the case of Aitana - who repeats the award for the second consecutive year - the jury sees his leadership capacity as captain, with different gestures throughout the season. An example is the case of the Champions League final in Turin, in which Aitana proudly showed off her runner-up medal in front of the cameras, highlighting the progress she has made in the competition despite losing the final.

In parallel, the jury wanted to make a public mention for Melanie Serrano, outside the list of finalists, but who is recognized for the value of her absolute commitment to FC Barcelona. The FCB Women's player, who announced her retirement a few days ago, has spent 18 years at FC Barcelona, during which she has broken the mold and has been an example of conciliation between professional sport and personal life.
