Alexia Putellas named UEFA Women's Player of the Year

Barça captain caps an amazing year by becoming the first woman from Spain ever to be crowned the best footballer in Europe

The FC Barcelona women’s team are still in the eyes of Europe. After their awesome treble of Liga. Copa de la Reina and the Champions League, in Alexia Putellas the team now has the UEFA Player of the Year. What’s more, the other two places on the podium were taken by her team-mates Jennifer Hermoso and Lieke Martens. 

Total midfielder

The Barça number 11 has risen and risen, and is now wearing the captain’s armband at the European champion club. The Estadi Johan Cruyff has enjoyed days after day of fabulous football from the Catalan, who has also been named Best Midfielder in the UEFA Champions League.

First from Spain 

After becoming the first ever Champions League winning team from Spain, Alexia Putellas now also becomes the first player from the country to be crowned the best in Europe. 

It’s the second time for the club, after Lieke Martens was the recipient of the accolade in 2017, shortly after joining the side.
