The first meeting between the first deputy mayor for Economy, Competitiveness, Work and Finance, Jaume Collboni, and the new president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, closed this morning with the aim of jointly promoting the hub of 'innovation and technology of sport, with the epicentre at Montjuïc mountain, and with which Barcelona wants to become an international reference in the 'Sportstech' sector.'

The meeting, which was also attended by the City Council's Councilor for Sports, David Escudé, and the institutional vice-president and spokesperson of the club, Maria Elena Fort, highlighted the importance of technology applied to sport as a booming sector that can contribute to the economic revival and brand projection of the city at the international level.

Thus, the City Council and Barça will participate with others driving the initiative in another meeting that will take place next week to lay the foundations for the project. The new hub was presented on April 15 as part of reAct and will be composed of companies, large corporations, institutions, start-ups and other technology companies that develop projects to transform and improve the management and practice of the sport, including eSports-related projects (e-sports that have become a global mass phenomenon).

The first deputy mayor, Jaume Collboni, emphasised the will of the BCN Sports Tech Hub “to act as a reference point to promote other technological hubs in the training, attraction and retention of talent from the schools public-private collaboration.”

For its part, FC Barcelona has the experience of the Barcelona Innovation Hub. In this sense, the president Joan Laporta has pointed out that "FC Barcelona and the city of Barcelona have always gone hand in hand when it comes to major city projects and especially those within a sporting dynamic."
