A tenacious Barça Women's performance was a platform for Lluís Cortés side to go through to the semifinals of the Women's Champions League thanks to a late goal from Hamraoui.
Attack v defence
As usual, Barça kept possession well, and Lieke Martens' effort tested Lindahl who was equal to it. Dani González's Atlético were more focused on defending, and as a result, it allowed Barça to build attack after attack. Tounkara denied Alexia with a goal-line clearance which was the closest the Blaugrana came in the opening 45 minutes.
No goals ...
Only the voices from the benches could be heard at an empty San Mamés, and they were much louder when complaining about wasted opportunities. Oshoala, in a one-on-one, Alexia, after a cross from Torrejón, and Hansen were all rebuffed by saves from Lindahl, whilst Knaak, on a rare Atléti counter-attack almost broke the deadlock
... until Hamraoui arrives
Towards the end of the match, Barça's patience and persistence paid off. It wasn't pretty, but French midfielder, Hamraoui, put the Catalans ahead from inside the area (0-1, min. 80).
Atléti couldn't raise themselves for one final assault on the Barça goal, meaning that Lluís Cortés' side qualified for the semifinals for the third time in the history of the European tournament. Now, the mighty Wolfsburg will be laying in wait after beating Glasgow City 1-9.
