Barça's 0-0 draw at the Alcalá de Henares Sports Center was bittersweet. In the first of the four games they will play in the next two months against the Rojiblancos, Lluís Cortés' side dominated but couldn't find a way past a solid Atlético Madrid defence.
The visitors were on the front foot from the first whistle and Lieke Martens was the first to try her luck, her shot only finding the arms of Lola Gallardo. Shortly after, Atléti had their best chance of the match when Meseguer hit the post. Oshoala, Mariona and Marta all went close for the Blaugranes, with Gallardo pulling off a stunning save from Mariona just before half-time to keep the scores level.
Barça upped the ante in the second half leading to Sampedro being subbed off for the lightning-quick Ludmila, who began to cause the visitors problems. With 15 to play, Gallardo was again the hero for the hosts, this time denying Jenni Hermoso. Barça sub, Candela, had the chance to win the match in injury-time, but Gallardo would not be beaten.
The point at least means that Barça retain their nine-point lead at the top of the league, and their next match comes on Saturday, February 1, at 12 noon, against Sevilla at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
