Barça Women 3-1 Granadilla

Barça Women 3-1 Granadilla

Winter champions as 100 per cent record at Estadi Johan Cruyff continues

Barça have ended 2019 in cracking form and Saturday’s defeat of Granadilla wins them the honorary title of winter champions. Goals from Oshoala, Graham and Alexia leave the women’s team five points clear of Atlético Madrid and mean they still have a 100 per cent record at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, with a tremendous 44-5 goal difference.

Total dominance in the first half paid off when Oshoala converted a clever move concocted by Patri and Marta on the quarter hour. It was the Nigerian’s eighth goal of the season.

Totally against the run of play, the visitors equalised in the second half through Martín Prieto. It was one of the few encroachments into the Barça half by the Canary Islanders. Barça looked to have hit back immediately, but Mariona’s goal was ruled out for offside.

But in a five-minute spell, the game was put to bed. Aitana assisted Graham for a peculiar goal – it wasn’t even a shot but the visiting keeper’s error meant the ball crossed the line. And the  the Norwegian set up goal number three, finished off by Alexia.

Barça now take a festive break and will be back in action at San Mamés at noon on Sunday 5 of the new year, away to Athletic Club.
