Ansu Fati candidate for ‘Golden Boy’ award

The young Barça striker is one of 20 names up for the prize for the best young player of the year

Italian sports paper 'Tuttosport' has announced its 20 man shortlist for the 'Golden Boy' award for players born in 1999 or after (20 years old or under). On the list we find none other than Ansu Fati representing FC Barcelona. 

Not yet 17 years of age, Fati is up to three years younger than many of his fellow candidates for the award. Right now, the young Barça striker is on international duty with the Spanish U-21 squad despite being just 16. 

The other possible winners of the Golden Boy 2019 are:  Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan), Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal), Erling Haland (RB Salzburg), Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen), Joao Felix (Atlético Madrid), Dejan Joveljic (Eintracht Frankfurt), Moise Kean (Everton), Kang-in Lee (Valencia), Andrij Oleksijovyc (Valladolid), Danyell Malen (PSV Eindhoven), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Ferran Torres (Valencia), Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid) and Nicolo Zaniolo (Roma).

The prize has been won in the past by Leo Messi (2005) and former blaugrana Cesc Fàbregas (2006), as well as other established stars from the world of football such as Wayne Rooney, Sergio Agüero, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling and Kylian Mbappé amongst others.
