The Barça Players Association (BPA) has welcomed 32 new members this week. They include 13 FCB Women’s Football First Team players and 19 ex-players from the First Team and Youth System. This is the second time a group of FC Barcelona women ex-players have joined, after the first ex-players from the first FC Barcelona Women’s Team in 1970 joined in 2013.
A work commission made up of group representatives and BPA directors will ensure that the new members are absorbed into the Association effectively so that their needs as members can be met. Some of the new women members will take part in the BPA basic and advanced courses for football coaches, which are about to begin.
For the President of the BPA, Ramon Alfonseda, the addition of the Club’s women ex-players “was on our To Do list, and it’s something we’re enormously satisfied about; now we can truly say that the Association is a home for all of the Club’s former football players”. Furthermore, the blue and claret ex-players who have led the process, Noemí Rubio, Aida García y Flor de Luna Pila, want this addition “to make FC Barcelona, the Association and Catalonia greater; we want to see recognition for the ex-players and players who have played for the FCB Women’s team at different levels”. They are also sure that their entry into the BPA can contribute to women’s football on an international scale.
The BPA will soon organise a welcome event for the new women members of the Association at the BPA Headquarters.
