Catalonia and the Basque Country draw 1-1 at San Mamés

Nine Barça players took part in the friendly which saw goals from Aritz Aduriz and Sergio García

The national teams from the Basque Country and Catalonia drew at one goal apiece at San Mamés in a friendly commemorating the one hundreth anniversary of the first match ever between the two sides. It was a festive evening, especially in a first half that saw all of the scoring.

Catalonia started five Barça players: Marc Bartra, Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Xavi and Sergio Busquets. Biding their time on the bench were: Jordi Masip, Martín Montoya, Sergi Roberto and Sergi Samper.

The match didn't start off too well for Catalonia as Aritz Aduriz opened the scoring in minute 3. The Basques then almost netted another one just a few minutes later.

Catalonia pressed forward, though, and little by little shooed away the Basques with Xavi marshalling play through midfield. Jonathon Soriano was whistled for offisides just before the half, but RCD Espanyol's Sergio García followed it up with the equaliser on a sensational finish.

At the start of the second half, several more Barça players — Masip, Montoya, Sergi Roberto and Samper — came off the bench.
