Catalonia and the Basque Country draw 1-1 at San Mamés

Nine Barça players took part in the friendly which saw goals from Aritz Aduriz and Sergio García

The national teams from the BasqueCountry and Catalonia drew at one goal apiece at SanMamés in a friendly commemorating the one hundreth anniversary of the first match ever between the two sides. It was a festive evening, especially in a first half that saw all of the scoring.

Catalonia started five Barça players: MarcBartra, GerardPiqué, JordiAlba, Xavi and SergioBusquets. Biding their time on the bench were: JordiMasip, MartínMontoya, SergiRoberto and SergiSamper.

The match didn't start off too well for Catalonia as AritzAduriz opened the scoring in minute 3. The Basques then almost netted another one just a few minutes later.

Catalonia pressed forward, though, and little by little shooed away the Basques with Xavi marshalling play through midfield. JonathonSoriano was whistled for offisides just before the half, but RCD Espanyol's SergioGarcía followed it up with the equaliser on a sensational finish.

At the start of the second half, several more Barça players — Masip, Montoya, SergiRoberto and Samper — came off the bench.
