Dani Alves equals Paolo Maldini with four UEFA Super Cups

The Brazilian also matches the legendary Italian defender's record of having appeared in five separate European Super Cup finals

FC Barcelona's victory over Sevilla in Tbilisi means that defender Dani Alves has matched former AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini's four UEFA Super Cup titles. The Brazilian first won the trophy in 2006 while representing Sevilla FC,when they beat FC Barcelona 3–0. Alves then won with Barça in 2009, with a 1-0 win over Shakhtar, and in 2011, with a 2–0 triumph over FC Porto.

Paolo Maldini officially won four UEFA Super Cups with AC Milan in 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003.  In 1993 he was on the losing side when the 'rossoneri' lost an all Serie A clash with Parma 2-1 on aggregate over two legs. Alves has now equalled Maldini's record number of appearing in five Super Cup finals. Aside from his four victories, the Brazilian also played in Sevilla's defeat against AC Milan in 2007, a final in which, curiously enough, Maldini did not play.
