Jordi Alba: 'Continuing at this Club was always my aim'

The Barça No.18 renewed his contract for the next five seasons, with a buyout clause set at 500M euros

"Continuing at this Club was always my aim," Jordi Alba noted during the official announcement of the signing of his new contract. That took place this Monday in the Ricard Maxenchs Press Room, and ensures that the player will be tied to FC Barcelona until June 30, 2024. The left-back, who is in his seventh season at the Club - during which he's raised a total of 14 titles and scored 14 goals in the 282 games played - now has a 500M buyout clause.

Jordi Mestre, vice president of the sports department, said in the press conference that it is a "very happy day for all culers," emphasising that Alba was "the best left-back in the world."

Alba, accompanied by his family, was "very grateful to Club, President and Board of Directors" for the renewal agreement and stressed that: "I am going through the best moment of my career, and continuing here was always my aim."

"I take care of myself much more, I have the support of my family along with the trust of the Club and my team-mates. I'm happy in all aspects of my life, and that allows me to play at the highest level." The No.18 also noted his ambition to continue winning titles "despite the enormous difficulty involved."

With respect to the supporters, he acknowledged that "I've always felt the support of the fans, they wanted me to renew," and that they will also play a part during the upcoming game against Lyon. "Surely they will help us win the game," Alba concluded.
