Lleida Esportiu v FC Barcelona U19: Second consecutive defeat (3-0)

Serious corrective for Gabri's side ahead of the midweek trip to Belarus

Lleida were clear victors on Saturday as the Barça U19s failed to recover from a similar loss to Mallorca. Once again, Gabri’s side conceded an early goal and despite creating plenty of attacking football, it was Lleida who made good of their chances.

The game was just two minutes old when Joanet thumped the ball into the back of the Barça net. Matías brought out the best in the home keeper after 12 minutes and Carbonell saw the rebound turned onto the crossbar, but Barça went further behind when Iñaki saved a free-kick only to send the ball straight into the path of to make it 2-0. Barça again pushed forward, but to no avail. Cucurella was one-on-one against the Lleida keeper, but it was the latter who got the better of the former, and Aleñá send a great chance flying over the bar as the half-time whistle blew with Lleida still two goals to the good.

Game over

The home side came out strong after the break in search of a goal to finish off the job, and they did it with a slow drive from Eloi after 52 minutes. Both managers made a number of changes, but a comeback was looking more and more improbable for Barça – and there would be no further score. It was not the ideal send-off for the team on their trip to Belarus to play FC BATE Borisov on Tuesday in the third game of the UEFA Youth League. That match kicks off at 4.00pm CET.
