FC Barcelona took one big step towards reclaiming the Spanish Super Cup after shutting out hosts Sevilla, 2–0, on Sunday night at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, which had previously been a site of much attrition for Barça manager Luis Enrique and his players.
Second half goals from Luis Suárez and Munir El Haddadi were the definitive blows that knocked the Sevillistas to the mat heading into Wednesdays second leg at Camp Nou.
It is Luis Enrique's first win in three visits to the Sánchez Pizjuán as Barça's head coach following a 2–2 draw there in 2014/15 and a 2–1 defeat last season.
Clean sheets
Barça closed out last season by outscoring opponents 26–0 over their last six official games, and added two more in Sunday's first official match of 2016/17.
Perhaps just as impressive, it came on a pitch where few teams have had much success, at least recently. That's because Sevilla hadn't been shut out at home since falling 3–0 to Atlético Madrid in La Liga on 30 August 2015.
Now, just under one year later, Barça's Super Cup blitzkrieg has repeated the rare feat.
