Barça continue to dominate European handball as Carlos Ortega's team were crowned European champions on Sunday after defeating Füchse Berlin in the final.
In the German city where glory is Europe in officially decided, Barça once again showed why they are the leading team in European handball. After overcoming Aalborg in the semi-finals and then completing a perfect weekend in the final with victory over Berlin, the blaugranes add a 13th trophy in the competition to their list of honours.
No other club can come close to Barça's record in the competition. Their nearest rivals, VfL Gummersbach and SC Magdeburg, have five titles each, a gap that highlights the dominance of a team that, generation after generation, has turned excellence into an art form.
Carlos Ortega, another title for a legend
The victory also reinforces coach Carlos Ortega's status as one of the great icons of European handball. The Barça boss now has nine European Cups in his list of honours: six won as a player and three more as Barça coach.
A team for the history books
This thirteenth Champions title is also a reward for a squad that has once again risen to the occasion in Germany. At the most demanding point of the season, Barça displayed character, talent and ambition to overcome their opponents and lift the most coveted trophy in European handball once again. A revitalised squad, with seven players developed at La Masia, sees many celebrating their first success on the continental stage.
