Barça are champions of the 2025/26 Liga Nexus Energía Asobal! The handball team mathematically secured the title this Saturday thanks to yesterday’s victory over Abanca Ademar León (48–31) and second-placed Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja’s slip-up against Irudek Bidasoa Irún (32–34).

That's the club's 33rd Liga Asobal title and the 16th in a row.

The title has been mathematically secured with six games to spare, with Barça 14 points clear of their closest challengers with only 12 points left to play for.

Perfect record

Carlos Ortega’s team have dominated the league with an iron grip. They have dropped no points at all, having won every one of their 24 matches played so far, having already faced all of the teams in the upper half of the table twice, with the exception of Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja themselves and Bathco Torrelavega.

The goal difference perfectly illustrates that dominance. Barça are the team that have scored the most goals (953) and conceded the fewest (651) in the entire competition, with a positive balance of 302 goals.

New-look squad

This title is the first for several members of a squad that underwent as many as 10 changes over the summer. Dani Fernández, Viktor Hallgrímsson and Seif Elderaa have ow lifted the Asobal trophy for the first time, while others such as Ian Barrufet, Djordje Cikusa and Òscar Grau are making their first appearances as members of the first team.

The contribution of the Blaugrana academy has also been key in the journey. Youth winger Adrián Sola has contributed 80 goals, while Filip Saric and Manuel Ortega have also featured prominently, along with occasional appearances from Miguel Ángel Martín and Oriol San Felipe.

As many as 11 of the 22 players who have represented Barça in this season’s Liga Asobal have come through La Masia.

Five title one, two more to go

The league title is Barça’s fifth trophy of the season, with the team also having won every other competition they have played so far, namely the Supercopa de Catalunya, the Supercopa Ibérica, the Club World Championship and the Copa de España.

They still have two objectives on the horizon: the Copa del Rey, to be played from 5 to 7 June, and the biggest but hardest one of all, the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. Barça will face French side Nantes in the quarter-finals. The first leg is on Thursday 30 April in France, and the second leg is on Wednesday 6 May at the Palau.
