Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and Sergey Hernández (Krasnodar, 1995) for the goalkeeper to join next summer on a contract through to 30 June 2029. Hernández is set to arrive at the Club in his sporting prime and after having established himself as one of the best keepers in the world.
The 30-year-old Spaniard with Russian roots has been on an upward trajectory since his debut for Anaitasuna until becoming the current starting keeper for Magdeburg and the Spanish national team.
Educated from 13 to 18 years old in the youth system at Danish side KIF Kolding, Hernández' career has seen him represent Anaitasuna (2015-2018), Logroño La Rioja (2018-2020), Benfica (2020-2023) and Magdeburg (2023-2026).
The goalkeeper's achievements include winning the EHF Champions League (2025), the Bundesliga (2024), the German Cup (2024), the IHF Men's Super Globe (2023) and the EHF European League (2022).
Sergey Hernández has also played for the Spanish national team for the last two seasons, having achieved a European silver medal (2022) and a World bronze medal (2021) so far from 67 appearances.
Hernández will be back in the Liga Asobal with Barça next season, a transfer that player said is a "dream fullfilled" to the Club's media, although he is aware of the demands from defending the FC Barcelona crest, which is "incomparable to any other team".
Sergey Hernández: "I will be proud to form part of this Club's history"
"Every step I have taken so far in my career has been about returning home one day, and to FC Barcelona, a club I've dreamed about playing for. My first game as a professional with Anaitasuna was against Barça and at the Palau; I will always remember it. I am proud to become part of the history of this club", assures Hernández.
The goalkeeper admits that he "didn't imagine" he would wear blaugrana one day, but that every step of his career has involved working "with that idea in mind".
"I said to myself, try it, work hard, make the effort, and if the chance comes through the steps you take during your career, it will be a dream come true of course'", acknowledges Sergey Hernández.
