Ángel Fernández, first signing of the Ortega era

The Spanish international left wing becomes the first handball addition for the 2021/22 season

FC Barcelona and Ángel Fernández have reached an agreement for the Spanish international to join the team coaches by Carlos Ortega for the coming season. As such, Fernández will fill the gap left by the departure of Casper Mortensen whose contract came to an end at the finish of the 2020/21 season.

Fernández played for Polish club Kielce between 2018 and 2021, winning two league titles and a domestic cup. Prior to that he had spent five seasons with Ciudad de Logroño and two at CD Torrebalonmano.

Fernández's signing allows the blaugranes to strengthen the position normally covered by Aitor Ariño who is currently recovering from a knee injury picked up last season. Barça's new acquisition was named the best left in the ASOBAL league in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
