FC Barcelona v FC Rosengärd: Historic! (2-0)

Xavi Llorens’ side reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time in the club’s history through goals from Jenni Hermoso and Mariona

FC Barcelona Women made history on Wednesday night as they sealed qualification to the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Following the 1-0 win away at Rosengård, a 2-0 win at home thanks to goals from Jenni Hermoso and Mariona sealed a historic passage to the final four of the competition.

The visitors started brightly, hitting the post through Masar after just four minutes and going close moments later. Marta and Wieder then threatened before the break, reminding Barça that the tie was far from said and done.

Barça got the goal so massively craved early in the second period as Losada picked out Jenni who headed in via the post.

Each of the two players involved in the opener almost sealed the tie as Losada first, then Jenni, each came close through respective lobs on goal.

With time ticking on, Rosengård pushed forward in a desperate attempt to get back in the tie, but it was Barça who would put the icing on the cake in the 93rd minute through Mariona, making history for the club.

Barça will now face PSG in the semis, the same side who defeated the Catalans in last year's edition, giving the team an extra motivation during the two legged tie.

A number of the players gave their thoughts after the historic win:

Marta Torrejón

“We are so happy for the job we have done. We knew we would have to defend well, which is what we did and allowed us to qualify.”

“Of course we can dream, but we have our feet on the ground. Our objective each season is to go a step further.”

Jenni Hermoso

“The whole squad is euphoric. We have made history and, at least for today, we must celebrate it. This doesn’t happen every day.”

“We are in the semi-finals and, who knows, perhaps we can remove the thorn of last season (by defeating PSG).”

Alexia

"Year after year the team gets more European experience. We have matured because of this and today came the moment to make history. Now we will continue trying.”

“I am very happy, because we have made history.”
