Avaldsnes-Barça Femení: Champions League exhibition (0-4)

The blaugrana were too strong for the Norwegian team and goals from Martens, Duggan, Andressa Alves and Mariona see them on the verge of the last 16

Barça Femení were far too strong for their UEFA Women's Champions League opponents, Alvaldsnes, and goals from Martens, Duggan, Andressa Alves and Mariona (0-4) see the team with a healthy advantage ahead of the return fixture.

The Norwegian team were physical but the blaugrana took control of the game thanks to their superior possession game. Andressa Alves and the electric Lieke Martens were a constant thorn in the side of Alvaldsnes, and it was the latter who put Barça Femení ahead on 19 minutes. Unable to build on the lead before half-time, Fran Sanchez’s side had goalkeeper Sandra Paños to thank for commanding her area and gathering every cross into the box.

Barça superiority

Continuing to dominate after the break, the tone of the game didn’t change and it was only a matter of time before Barça increased their lead. Toni Duggan continued her excellent recent form with a powerful shot that was too hot to handle for Fraine.

The third goal arrived with 15 minutes to play after good combination between Duggan, Martens and Andressa Alves. A shot from Martens was pushed into Alves’ path and the Brazilian made no mistake. Before the end, Mariona, a late substitute, got on the scoresheet and the final score of 0-4 gives the blaugrana an excellent chance of progressing into the last 16.  The return fixture is Wednesday at the Mini Estadi.
