Lieke Martens wins the prize for The Best FIFA Women's Player 2017

Barça Women's new signing is the best player of the 2016/17 season following her starring role in Holland's Euro 2017 win in which she was chosen as MVP

Lieke Martens has been announced as the best female player of the 2016/17 season as she wins FIFA’s The Best. The blaugrana player signed for FC Barcelona this summer following her fantastic performances as Holland won the European Championship. She was chosen as the tournament’s MVP.

Martens came first ahead of Carli Lloyd of Machester City, who reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League; and Deyna Castellanos, who plays for Florida State Seminoles. Martens scored three goals and gave two assists in the six matches played. Moreover, she was named as UEFA’s Women’s Player of the Year even though she was knocked out when playing for Rosengard in the quarter finals against her current club FC Barcelona.

Martens has demonstrated her value and the footballing world has fallen in love with her exciting performances. The Dutch player has been in Barça's starting XI in all the matches so far this season except for the first league game and has scored four goals and made four assists in eight official matches.
