Barça are back in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals. And they’re not done yet.

After sweeping aside Real Madrid Femenino, Pere Romeu’s team once again find themselves among the four best teams in Europe. But there’s no sense of satisfaction yet. This Barça team wants more. And they already knew what was waiting for them: a heavyweight semi-final showdown with FC Bayern Munich Women. It will be the second time the two sides meet at this stage, and their fifth clash overall in Europe’s top competition.

The Bavarians booked their place a day earlier after edging past Manchester United Women in a tightly contested tie. They claimed a 3-2 win at Old Trafford before finishing the job in Munich with a 2–1 victory, completing the turnaround after going behind early in the second leg.

Previous meetings

This won’t be the first time Barça and Bayern lock horns in a Champions League semi-final. They previously met in the 2018/19 campaign, when Barça came out on top 1-0 in both legs to reach the final for the first time ever.

More recently, the two sides have also faced off in the group stage. In 2022/23, Barça won at home but fell 3–1 in Munich. And earlier this season, in the new competition format, the blaugranes delivered a statement performance, thrashing Bayern 7–1 on 7 October 2025 in their opening European fixture of the campaign.

In-form opponent

Despite that heavy defeat to Barça earlier in the season, Bayern have put together an impressive run in the competition. Since then, they’ve picked up standout wins against top opposition, including Juventus (2–1), Arsenal (3–2), Paris Saint-Germain (3–1) and Vålerenga (3–0), as well as a draw against Atlético Madrid (2–2). It’s a run that underlines just how dangerous this side can be.

Growing experience

Bayern Munich are now firmly established as Champions League regulars. After debuting in 2009/10 and returning in 2015/16, they’ve become a consistent item in the latter stages of the competition.

This will be their third semi-final appearance (following 2018/19 and 2020/21) and they’ve also reached the quarter-finals on multiple occasions. While they may not yet boast the trophy haul of European heavyweights like Wolfsburg or Lyon. Bayern have cemented their place among the continent’s elite, and will provide a serious test for Barça’s title ambitions.
