Until now, only two Barça Femení players had ever reached the semi-finals of the European Championship. They were Line Røddik, who was a runner-up with Denmark in 2017, and Fridolina Rolfö, who fell in the semi-finals of the 2022 edition with Sweden, after losing to England.
Now, with Spain qualifying for the semi-finals of the continental competition, 11 more blaugrana players join that list. They are Cata Coll, Ona Batlle, Jana Fernández, Irene Paredes, Aitana Bonmatí, Patri Guijarro, Alexia Putellas, Vicky López, Salma Paralluelo, Clàudia Pina, and Laia Aleixandri.
This marks the first time Barça has had such a strong international presence in the semi-finals of the Euros. This Wednesday’s 9pm CEST kick-off between Spain and either France or Germany could see all eleven culers book a place in the final. If they win it, they would become the first Barça players to do so.
The one who came closest was Røddik in 2017, when Denmark lost the final 4–2 to the Netherlands. That Dutch team included Lieke Martens, who was named MVP of the tournament and signed for Barça later that summer.
