FC Barcelona 1-2 Levante: First loss at Estadi Johan Cruyff

Unexpected result at Estadi Johan Cruyff, as Barça Women have been defeated for the first time in the six years they have played there. An incredible run in the grand scheme of things that has been ended by this 1-2 Liga F loss to Levante. The blaugranes created countless chances and dominated the attacking metrics, but Pere Romeu's side lost for the first time in 622 days in the domestic league.

The day started in festive mood as Marta and Alexia jointly lifted the Spanish Super Cup in front of the fans to much applause, and the players came out with their names written in Chinese to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

Blaugranes create plethora of chances...

The chances kept coming throughout the first half, but none of them ended with the ball rippling the net. The blaugranes had done plenty to merit taking the lead, but it was actually a rare foray by Levante that put the cat among the pigeons for the home side.

... but the visitors score first

For all the attacking threat in the first half, the tables were turned in the second half as Casado scored for Levante in the 50th minute in just their second real attack of the game. 0-1, but the blaugranes continued to go close and dominate possession as the match went on.

Frenetic finale

All the same, no matter how Pere Romeu's side attacked and created chances, they simply wouldn't go in, with the rearguard action by Levante repelling all. A counterattack was the visitors' only way to do further damage, and now into added time, Chacón scored to make it 0-2. This triggered a frenetic finale with Pere Romeu's side getting one back through Rolfö before Ainhoa Bascuñán was sent off for Levante.

The final whistle blew and Barça had lost for the first time in 622 days in the Liga F, and for the first time at the Estadi Johan Cruyff since their first competitive game there on 7 September 2019. Nothing lasts forever, of course, and next up for FC Barcelona, a Catalan derby away to Espanyol in the Liga F on 9 February (kick-off 12.00pm CET) to get straight back on the winning trail.
