Markel Zubizarreta set to leave the Club

Barça Women sporting director set to leave after six years in the role

Barça and Markel Zubizarreta have agreed to part ways. The Barça Women's sporting director's contract was due to end on 30 June 2024.

Zubizarreta played a key role in creating the best women's football team in Europe and the Club would like to express their gratitude for his efforts and dedication, wishing him all the very best in his personal and professional life.

Markel's legacy

Zubizarreta constructed a winning Barça Women's team after first becoming sporting manager in 2015 before taking on the sporting director role in summer 2017. The team has become the benchmark in Europe during these past six seasons.

While Markel Zubizarreta has been in charge of the sporting project, the women's team have won 16 trophies, including 4 Ligas, 2 Champions Leagues (2021 and 2023), 4 Copas de la Reina, 3 Spanish Super Cups and 3 Catalan Cups.

The Club will provide an update on the team's new sporting structure in due course.
