Barça Women 1–0 Real Madrid Femenino: Clásico win to keep the run going

Barça earn a tight win against Real Madrid in front of a record crowd of 5569 in the Estadí Johan Cruyff

The perfect winning run in the league continues, Barça Women this time overcoming Real Madrid Femenino 1-0 in the Clásico, a penalty by Rolfö sealing the three points.

As in the recent men's Clásico win, Barça were wearing the special edition Rosalía Motomami home shirt, with the women's jersey already having sold out before the match such was the demand. Coach Jonatan Giráldez made 4 changes from the battling 1-0 win away at Roma in the Women’s Champions League - Marta, Engen, Geyse, and Crnogorčević coming in for Paredes, Walsh, Oshoala, and Graham Hansen.

Control in the first half

A record crowd of 5569 was at the Estadí Johan Cruyff to see this latest edition of the Clásico and they quickly made their presence felt, creating a great atmosphere and showing their displeasure whenever Real Madrid appeared to be taking a bit too long for their liking in certain situations.

The first half was somewhat of a slow burner, Barça taking control of the game as it went on, without really creating any clear cut chances to test Misa in the Real Madrid goal. Most of the play was coming down the left, Mapi Leon whipping in crosses from deep to seed panic among the visitors' tightly packed defence. Marta shot over, Crnogorčević headed straight at Misa, before Weir had the first shot in anger from distance for Real Madrid after 36 minutes. 0-0 at halftime.

Penalty by Rolfö seals the win

Barça remained in control after the restart, Geyse and Patri continued with their strong pressing to force mistakes. Mapi Leon was putting in dangerous free kicks, one of which Crnogorčević put just wide. Coach Jonatan Giráldez brought on Walsh, Oshoala, and Graham Hansen on 60 minutes to add some fresh legs and attacking quality, with Barça increasingly swarming the final third to try to make the breakthrough.

Misa in the Real Madrid goal was proving a difficult obstacle, dropping down smartly to save a Graham Hansen header low after a great cross from Patri on 68 minutes, before the same players reversed their roles 6 minutes later, but with the same outcome.

However, the goal was soon to come, substitute Del Castillo pulling down Paralluelo inside the box after a melee and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Rolfö to send Misa the wrong way for 1-0 after 78 minutes, much to the delight of the fans in the stadium.

Real Madrid tried to push for the equaliser towards the end, Sandra Paños saving a powerful shot from Toletti two minutes later. Rolfö and Aitana both tried to provide the cushion of an extra goal to no avail, but the referee blew the whistle to confirm this latest Clásico victory, making it now 23 wins in 23 games this season in the league.
