Barça 8–0 Alavés: Big win to consolidate first place in the league

Barça win the three points in a match that saw Bruna Vilamala return after a significant injury layoff

The international break ends and Barça win again, this time against Alavés (8-0), meaning it's now nine wins from nine in LaLiga F.  The goal fest also came with the added bonus of the return of both Laia Codina, and Bruna Vilamala, the young striker playing the last 20 minutes of the game after more than a year out with a serious injury.

Goals show Barça's superiority

Barça took to the pitch at Estadi Johan Cruyff with another three points the target. The shot count was already ticking over, when Pina broke the deadlock in the seventh minute after taking a great touch from a Paredes pass, before shooting left footed into the far corner. The start of things to come, and just four minutes later, Oshoala scored the second after a lovely slide rule pass by Mapi Leon put in Rolfö down the left, who dropped the ball on the striker's head (2-0).

Pina then provided a superb pass for the third from between the lines for Rölfo to score through Patri Larqué's legs after 24 minutes. Pina carried on her wonderful afternoon by scoring a penalty due to handball to make it 4-0, and in her 200th game for Barça, Mapi León scored with a powerful shot from outside the area to make it 5-0 at halftime.

Bruna Vilamala returns

More of the same after the restart, albeit at a slightly less frantic pace. All the same, Salma Paralluelo got her goal, touching the ball ahead of her marker, before a high shot that proved too hot to keep out of the goal despite the away side keeper's efforts.

Conscious of the lead and the upcoming CL game, coach Jonatan Giráldez decided to make some substitutions, with Laia Codina returning after six weeks out and later, on 71 minutes, Bruna Vilamala made her long awaited return after 392 days out due to a cruciate ligament injury.

There was still time for more goals, though, Crnogorcevic pulling away from her marker and scoring from inside the area to make it 7-0 with seven minutes to go, before her fellow substitute Geyse collected Bruna Vilamala's pass to score a left footed low shot to make it 8-0 before somersaulting in celebration.

A great atmosphere among the crowd and lots of goals for the fans to celebrate. Attention now turns to 9 games in 31 days, the first of which is at the Spotify Camp Nou against Bayern Munich this Thursday (kick off 6.45pm CET).
