Rayo Vallecano 1-6 FC Barcelona: The greatest start ever

A 29th league win beats Levante's record dating back to the 2000/01 season, and it comes despite major complications from the 10th minute

Rayo Vallecano took an early lead through a penalty and Engen was red carded for her part in it. Coach Jonatan Giráldez was also sent off for protesting the decision. It was an anything but the start that Barça wanted but they went on to not only seal the win but do so in emphatic fashion, setting a brand new league record by winning the first 29 games of a season, which had been in the hands of Levante since the 2000-01 season.

It was not the first time in recent weeks that Barça have conceded the first goal, but as usual they managed to sort things out with flying colours.

Aitana Bonmatí got the Catalans back level after 20 minutes, the assist coming from Graham Hansen, and then the same duo repeated the trick moments before the break.

Despite being one player down, Barça let their superiority show in the second half. Marta Torrejón from a corner and then Claudia Pina, Jenni Hermoso and Aitana Bonmatí to complete her hat trick took the goal count up to six.

They’re as unstoppable as ever and Turin is just around the corner!
