FC Barcelona 6–1 Villarreal: 50 from 50 at the Johan Cruyff

Trailing at half-time, the goals start flying in after the break and the perfect Liga Iberdrola season continues for the champions

50 wins in 50 game. That’s the astounding outcome since the Barça women started playing home games at the Estadi Johan Cruyff in 2019, and they now have 26 wins in 26 games in this season’s Liga Iberdrola after pumping six past Villarreal.

All the goals came in the second half after the team had been surprisingly trailing 1-0 at the end of the first. An impressive hat-trick in just a quarter of an hour from Claudia Pino had much to do with that, while Crnogervic, Engen and Graham-Hansen added the others for a side that is already confirmed champion and is now aiming to complete a historic perfect season of wins.

Salma Paralluevo was the outstanding player for the visitors, and her 12th minute goal, it has to be said, was a quite spectacular solo effort. But it was the blaugrana who went on to dominate the proceedings, and it was frustrating to find that none of their good work went rewarded in a first half packed with great chances.

Everything that wasn’t working in the first started clicking after the break, and it took just three minutes for Barça to get into the lead. From there it was plain sailing, with four more goals to come and a wonderful culmination to a historic week for the Barça women’s team.
