Women's team's defender signs two-year contract extension in the company of president Joan Laporta
María León has extended her contract with el FC Barcelona until 30 June 2024. The defender, who would otherwise have been released at the end of the current season, is now confirmed to be staying for another two years. She put pen to paper on Monday afternoon in the company of president Joan Laporta and director Xavier Puig in the president’s office at Camp Nou.
Aged 26, María León is considered one of the best centre backs in the women’s game. A Spanish international, she’s been at the club for five seasons, making 175 appearances and scoring eight goals.
Statement by María León
“I am very happy to be staying for at least two more seasons. I thank the fans for their support and affection.”
“What we have achieved was not easy and it is even harder to do it again, people don’t realise that. It should be appreciated and we need to work hard to match last year.”
