A physical presence but also technically gifted and with an ability to steal into the penalty area going forward, Arturo Vidal is FC Barcelona’s latest signing. The 31 year old Chilean comes to the Club to reinforce the blaugrana midfield; his versatility means that he play in a variety of positions and his physical qualities mean that he can help in defence and attack.

Arturo Vidal defensive and attacking qualities overlap perfectly. His physical presence means that he is exceptional at winning the ball back but his quality means he can also combine well with his team mates as well as his ability to get into the opposition penalty box.

During his three seasons at Bayern Munich, his former club, he played 124 matches, 97 in the starting XI, scoring 22 goals and providing 14 assists. The Bavarian side are not the only team in the Bundesliga that has been home to Rey Arturo. The Chilean’s first European experience came at the age of 20 when joined Bayer Leverkusen. Vidal had four successful seasons with the German club, scoring 18 goals and grabbing the attention of clubs all over the continent.

In 2011 he made the move to Italian football, signing for Juventus. With the Turin club, he faced Luis Enrique’s Barça in the 2015 Champions League final and in his four seasons with the Serie A club he scored 47 goals and was one of the first names on the team sheet.

Proven winner

Arturo Vidal has always been a vital part of the teams in which he has played, including his time in Chile before moving to Europe. In his home country he began his career with the most famous club in the country, Colo-Colo. With the team from Santiago, he won three trophies, the first of many during his career so far. In Italy he won four consecutive league title with la Vecchia Signora and three out of three in the Bundesliga also with Bayern Munich.

As well success in the league, he has won the German Cup, the Coppa Italia, two German Super Cups and two Italian Super Cups. A key member of the Chilean side, Vidal has played in two World Cups and won the Copa América with his national side in 2015 and 2016.
