Messi's final frontier: Estadio Gran Canaria

Messi's final frontier: Estadio Gran Canaria

Of Barça's 19 current first division rivals, Las Palmas is the only club that has yet to concede a goal to Messi at its home ground

You can’t stop Leo Messi. You can only hope to contain him.

At least that's what Las Palmas will be attempting to do this Sunday night at 8.00pm CET, when Barça visit the Estadio Gran Canaria, the only current First Division stadium where Messi has yet score in his career.

Messi, of course, has only played there once before — last season, when Luis Suárez and Neymar scored to give Barça a 2–1 victory.

Every team in this season’s top flight has fallen victim to the Argentinian at some point or another throughout his career. If you add stadiums of clubs that no longer compete in the first division, the list grows even longer. And that’s just in Spain.

Overall, Messi has burned 69 different teams in 62 stadiums since he burst on the scene in the 2005/2006 season.

Here are the top 20 stadiums according to number of goals Messi has scored (home team in parentheses):

Camp Nou (Barça): 288
Santiago Bernabéu (Real Madrid): 14
Vicente Calderón (Atlético Madrid): 13
Riazor (Deportivo La Coruña): 10
Mestalla (Valencia): 9
Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas (Rayo Vallecano): 8
Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán (Sevilla): 8
Coliseum Alfonso Pérez (Getafe): 7
El Sadar (Osasuna): 7
El Sardinero (Racing Santander): 7
Iberostar Estadi (Mallorca): 7
La Romareda (Zaragoza): 7
La Rosaleda (Málaga) 7
Ciutat de Valencia (Levante): 6
Juegos Mediterráneos (Almería): 6
Celtic Park (Celtic Glasgow): 5
Ipurúa (Eibar): 5
Anoeta (Real Sociedad): 4
El Molinón (Sporting Gijón): 4
Estadio de la Cerámica (Villarreal): 4

And hopefully, this Sunday, Messi can add the Estadio Gran Canaria to his laundry list of conquests.
