Best start in the league for FC Barcelona

Stats show that this season in La Liga has begun better than any other in the Club’s history

FC Barcelona have started the 2017/18 league season in the best possible way. Three wins out of three so far mean Ernesto Valverde’s team are top of the table on goal difference ahead of Eusebio Sacristán’s Real Sociedad side. Barça may have started the season in other campaigns with three straight wins but they have never done so with such impressive figures.

Nine goals for and none against give the blaugranes their best beginning to a league season since the competition’s inception in 1928-29. A 2-0 win at home to Betis, a victory away at Alavés and the recent 5-0 win over Espanyol at Camp Nou in the Catalan derby is Barça’s record so far and they have a chance to maintain their 100% win ratio on Saturday when they go to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez to take on Getafe (kick off, 4.15pm CET).

The last time Barça started the season with three consecutive wins in the league came in the 2013/14 season, Luis Enrique’s first as coach. After those three wins Barça also had a goal difference of +9 but on that occasion they had conceded twice in those three wins. Their initial form was a good indicator of what was to come as the blaugranes recorded another historic treble winning the league, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
