Frenkie de Jong is approaching his recovery with a very clear objective: to return to action as soon as possible and in the best possible condition. The Dutch midfielder explains that he is already working according to a plan agreed with the club to ensure he is fully ready when he returns. In the meantime, he remains as ambitious as ever to continue fulfilling his dreams in a Barça shirt. He is also excited about the potential of the squad, the arrival of the new signings and the team’s ability to once again compete for every trophy.

How are you coping with the injury on a personal level?

I’m really gutted. What I enjoy most is playing football, and not being able to do that really hurts. I was very unlucky with the injury because it was an accident. The hardest thing was finding out afterwards that the injury was more serious than we expected. Nobody expected it, and now I have to focus on recovering. All I want is to play again.

What stage are you at in your recovery?

I’m working with the fitness coaches now. We’ve drawn up a plan that everyone agrees on.

What message do you want to convey at the moment?

I just want to focus on my recovery. I’m doing everything I can to be in good physical condition: I’m taking care of my diet, my rest and everything else that is in my hands. Right now, I’m doing everything necessary to come back in good shape and as soon as possible.

The Barça fans are also keeping a close eye on your recovery. What would you say to them?

I really feel their support and that makes me happy. Barça is more than a club and the people show that in every way. I’m going through a difficult time at the moment because of the injury, but I can feel that support.

Looking beyond your personal situation, how do you see the team going into this season?

Very well. We’re really excited. I think we already have a very strong squad and we’re strengthening it well. We’re improving every year. It’s a young team, but one that has already won trophies, and we’re still very ambitious to win many more.

What do you think of the new signings and the youngsters from La Masia?

La Masia is incredible. Every year, players emerge who we might not know and, in a very short space of time, they become very important players for the team. I think it’s part of the club’s DNA and something unique that Barça has and that we have to maintain. As for the new signings, they’re very good players and also very good people. They’ll help us enormously, and I try to help them adapt as quickly as possible.

What is the team’s biggest challenge this season?

We’re going into every competition with a lot of expectation. We’ve won trophies in recent years, but there are still some targets left. We want to win everything, every year, and obviously we’re very excited about the Champions League.

The club wishes Frenkie de Jong a quick and full recovery and hopes he can rejoin the team as soon as possible.
