Joan García, Eric García, Pau Cubarsí, Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal will all feature in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The eight Barça playersd helped Spain overcome Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-finals and remain in contention for the biggest prize in football.

It was far from easy for Luis de la Fuente’s side, who sealed victory in the 88th minute through a Mikel Merino goal. Fabián Ruiz had put Spain ahead in the first half after 30 minutes, but De Ketelaere equalised for Belgium before the break.

Three starters

Three of the eight FC Barcelona players started the game in Los Angeles (Cubarsí, Olmo and Lamine Yamal), while Ferran and Pedri came off the bench in the second half.

Pau Cubarsí’s contribution was particularly noteworthy. As solid as ever in defence, he also played a key role in Spain’s second goal, shooting from outside the area and forcing a rebound that Mikel Merino converted. Lamine Yamal, who was named MVP, and Olmo were also instrumental in the move that led to the opening goal.

This is only the second time Spain have qualified for a World Cup semi-final. The only previous occasion came in 2010, when there were also eight Barça players in the squad and they went on to lift the trophy.

Blaugrana semi

Spain will face Jules Koundé’s France in the semi-finals, setting up a culer clash in the last four of the World Cup. It also guarantees that at least one Barça player will feature in the final.

That one kicks off in Dallas on 14 July at 9pm CEST.
