Barça will not be in the Copa del Rey final next month in Seville after going out 4-3 on aggregate against Atlético Madrid in the semi-final. Hansi Flick's side came close to turning the tie around with a 3-0 win at Spotify Camp Nou in the second leg, just a goal away from taking the game into extra time.
Coach Hansi Flick was proud of his side's performance in which two goals from Marc Bernal and a penalty from Raphinha almost made the impossible seem possible.
"Obviously I am sad because we did not achieve our objective of reaching the final in Seville but we can be very proud. We had chances to score four or five goals and we have to focus on that for the games and challenges coming up," said the Barça coach after his side's win.
"We have given everything and that's what I want to see. We gave more than 100% and that's fantastic. Today everybody played with heart and it was a great performance from us but it was just not to be and we have to accept that."
Flick continued to say his side had been "brave" and went on to praise his young players. "We have done it with lads from La Masia such as Cubarsí, Gerard Martín and Marc Bernal and that makes me happy. They have incredible talent."
To conclude the coach said "everyone is clear about how we have to play and we have seen that on the field. We have to carry on like this but first we have to recover and take it step by step because there is still a long way to go in the league and the Champions League."
