The night at Montilivi was one to forget. FC Barcelona suffered their second consecutive defeat and lost top spot in La Liga. Even so, the Catalan derby did offer a few positives, none less so than the outstanding performance between the posts from Joan Garcia. The Barça goalkeeper was named MVP of the game with Girona FC, producing a stellar display that unfortunately wasn't even enough to earn a single point.
Garcia made a total of seven saves, equalling his personal record for most interventions in a single match since pulling on the Barça jersey. He also made seven in the Super Cup final against Real Madrid. Further proof that Barça have a truly decisive presence in goal.
Lat summer, the club opted to refresh its goalkeeping options, and Garcia is delivering in style. Against Girona, he pulled off a series of impossible saves that kept the blaugrana in the match and earned him a bittersweet MVP award. It was his third Man of the Match honour in the league since joining the club, following his displays against Rayo Vallecano and his former club Espanyol. On those occasions, his heroics did translate into points. Sadly, not this time.
