FC Barcelona marked their return to Spotify Camp Nou with a resounding victory. On an evening charged with emotion due to the significance of coming home, Hansi Flick’s side delivered a perfect debut in the new stadium: a 4–0 win, with a Ferran Torres brace and goals from Lewandowski and Fermín, allowing Barça to keep the pressure on Real Madrid at the top of the table.
“For everyone it was a very special match, for us as a team and for the supporters" Flick said in the post-match press conference. "The feeling was incredible. I’m very happy: we’ve won 4–0 on the day we opened our new stadium with all our fans behind us, and we’ve taken three points. It’s been a perfect day.”
While work continues on the new media zone, briefings are being held temporarily in the Auditori 1899.
Flick highlighted the team’s preparation and the solidity on display: “We were very well prepared and we showed that. It wasn’t easy, especially in the first half, but in the end everything went well. I think we controlled the game, scored at the right moments, and fully deserved the win ... Also not conceding is very important because it gives us confidence.”
Looking ahead, the German coach described this return as “a first step ... I’m very happy to be home, but we need to go step by step. We’re really excited to see how the team evolves this season now that we’re back.”
An incredible feeling
On a personal note, Flick admitted to being deeply moved: “Years ago I came to the old Spotify Camp Nou and thought that one day I would like to be Barça’s coach. Today I’m here, and it’s a dream come true. The feeling is incredible.”
Regarding individual players, he explained that Alejandro Balde’s substitution at half-time was purely precautionary. Speaking about Eric Garcia, he stressed that “having him is vital for us because of his versatility. And it’s great to see the best version of Fermín.”
Flick also praised Lewandowski: “Over the past 10 years he’s been one of the best number nines in football. His age doesn’t affect him: he’s fit, he’s hungry for goals, and that’s important. For him to score the first goal in the new Spotify Camp Nou is something truly special.”
