An evening of community and charity at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys between the people and teams of Catalonia and Palestine. This friendly game between both sides in aid of charity may not have been the most important aspect, but the Catalans ended up defeating the Palestines 2-1 and featured Marc Bernal as one of the starters.
The local midfielder started in midfield for Catalonia wearing the number 6 and played 45 minutes for a team coached by former blaugrana Gerard López. Bernal made his debut in the four stripes on a very emotive evening and one to remember. Hansi Flick didn't want to miss out and he was one of the 30,018 on Montjuïc to enjoy the game.
After playing the first half, Bernal spoke to Catalan channel TV3 as the second half was being played and considered it a “very special” day for him. He had already played for the Catalan youth sides and today made his first appearance with the full side on a day with “huge impact. It is a very special day for both Catalonia and Palestine”. He also assured that the 45 minutes “were very good for the recovery” and that he felt “really at ease”.
The game quickly turned in favour of the Catalans after a goal by former blaugrana Ilie Sánchez and the lead grew further after a Palestine own goal. They then managed to get a goal back a few minutes later, after which there were no more goals. Final score 2-1 on a day to remember.
