Striker Robert Lewandowski prioritises the team over the individual. "I feel great physically and the most important thing I can do is to help the team to win," explained the Polish international from Bruges in the pre-game press conference on Tuesday, the day before Barça's game against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Focused
FC Barcelona’s number 9 was clear in his answers at the Jan Breydelstadion press room, where he appeared alongside coach Hansi Flick, with whom he showed a great connection and rapport: “It’s not important how the season starts, but how it ends.” Many of the questions focused on the striker’s injury-marked start to the campaign: “I’m focused on doing things better and scoring more goals so the team can win.” He added: “I’ve worked hard these past weeks so that when I step onto the pitch, I can help.”
“In modern football there are a lot of matches, and if we play as a team, we’re more dangerous and that’s when we can win trophies. I’m calm because I know I can help the team a lot,” the striker said when asked about alternating playing time with Ferran Torres. The Polish player emphasised unity as key to earning three points in Bruges and the importance of having players fully engaged, like Marcus Rashford: “He scores and assists, he’s playing very well, and with him we’re stronger.”
Lewandowski’s ambition to win this Wednesday in Bruges was evident in every answer: “Every match in this Champions League is important. Every point is gold. So in our minds, it’s only about how to win. Brugge are a very strong at home and we have to play at 100% to get the three points, which is our main goal,” concluded the striker.
