Dani Olmo is back. The Catalan midfielder has put his recent injury behind him and is playing a key role in Hansi Flick's plans once again. The German coach has said that he needs looking after more than once this season and that he is a key player for the team. And he has shown just why in the most recent games.
He returned to the pitch and got some minutes against Borussia Dortmund in Germany, but his appearance against Celta really showed his importance. He came on in the 59th minute and scored in the 65th to make it 2-3 and start the great comeback.
After playing well and looking good against the Galician side, Flick decided to start him against Mallorca, and he didn't let him down, going on to score the only goal against them, managing to beat Leo Román who had saved pretty much everything else.
With Flick's strategy in mind, he was substituted in the 59th minute to avoid pushing him too far. As such, Dani Olmo is in top form coming into the final stage of the season, the most important time. It's particularly important because of the injury to Lewandowski, as he will have to take on a greater role. He could even play as a false 9 if the coach sees fit.
The next challenge for Dani Olmo is the Copa del Rey final in Seville against Real Madrid, a special game for a blaugrana fan like him, in his first season after returning to his favourite club.
