Araujo: 'I feel important'

Barca's number 4 attends the closing session for the 19th edition of the 'Charity sports stories' book

Ronald Araujo proved to be a star turn at the 'Charity sports stories' book closing session today at the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm in Barcelona. While up on stage and with the book providing the backdrop, the FC Barcelona captain stated that "It's a privilege, it's amazing, and I hope the project continues for many years".

Patron for this 19th edition of the charity initiative, the smiling Uruguayan footballer spoke with the around thirty sports journalists present. This year has seen Araujo take over from past blaugranes who were associated with this charity book, such as Xavi, Ter Stegen, Messi, Ansu Fati and Lewandowski. All proceeds this year are going to the project's chosen charity of the Enriqueta Villavecchia Childhood Cancer Foundation

With his satisfaction apparent, the defender proudly stated that the initiative had collected a record amount of €94,411.86. After announcing the total achieved for the project, he then opened the floor up to questions from journalists. With his customary elegance, Araujo discussed the current state of play with the team and his contract extension with Barça until 2031

"We'll strive to win LaLiga"

"What I wanted was never in doubt. I am very pleased and happy to remain with FC Barcelona. The extension makes me feel valued and I decided to stay to win", explained the blaugrana defender. He's also happy with his role for Hansi Flick: "I feel important and very good. I used videos to train for a long time before playing with the team again".

He went on to analyse the team further, stating "We have a risky playing style, but we get results with it and there is belief in the idea". "We have a young team with a lot of talent. We are excited and convinced we will strive to achieve our goal – to win LaLiga", declared the assured blaugrana captain. Yet another of Hansi Flick's men who feels important and strong to continue providing more to the team, whose next challenge is the Copa del Rey match against Valencia.
