A centre back with a leader's mentality. Pau Cubarsí is following in the footsteps of his heroes, Carles Puyol and Gerard Piqué. Just turned 18, the defender shows a maturity beyond his lean years out on the field. In a press conference before the remarkable win against Benfica in the Champions League, coach Hansi Flick had this to say on the Catalan teenager: "He's having a brilliant season, he's a very stylish player and can play on the left or right as centre back - he always does it well." The coach's faith in Cubarsí is backed up by statistics, as the defender is the third most used player in 2024/25.
The player has developed at a tremendous pace, with 2024 seeing Cubarsí's first team debut on 18 January, before he ended the year as a fixture in the first team XI. The young defender calls it a "dream" and his aim in 2025 is just to keep working hard and developing as a player. In an exclusive interview with Barça One, Cubarsí goes into more detail about the last 12 months, his life away from football, and being 18 years old.
