Xavi: 'We did our job to earn the three points'

Coach upbeat about win as attention turns to PSG

The post-match press conference saw the blaugrana coach very upbeat as he reflected on the win against Las Palmas. Despite not being on the sidelines for the game, Xavi considers the victory was "deserved".

Although the blaugranes competed well throughout the game, the coach considers that "we missed more chances than usual". Those missed opportunities, particularly towards the end of the first half and throughout the second, caused the result to remain in question until the final whistle blew. Xavi summed it up by stating that 'the lack of effectiveness made it more difficult than it should have been".

The defence played a key role in the victory. The blaugranes have now gone five games without conceding and that is a good foundation for winning games, with the coach continuing, "We are defending very well. We regained possession a lot before the sending-off, we were very professional. The defence is key to ensure we are where we are".

The three points mean Barça are temporarily five points behind Real Madrid, who are yet to play this matchweek. Xavi made it clear that whatever the all-whites do is up to them, and "doing our job today" was the most important thing, and that now "it's time to wait". He ended by stating that "Hopefully we can reduce the points difference in the two matchweeks before the visit to the Bernabéu".
